A whirlwind trip to Stockholm has been on the cards since July last year when Flip moved over. It took a while, but I finally made it. Although I did start to wonder when SAS (Scandinavian Air) were not only 3 hours late leaving but they also asked the passengers whether we would rather wait 30 minutes longer for the catering trolley (ie over-priced stale sandwiches) or leave now and without 'food'. It was a rather unanimous 'let's go now please'.
First port of call was to see Flip's kids. Twins born late last year, Isabelle and Alexandra were fairly well behaved. I would be too if my day was filled with eating and sleeping...
Next up was a trip to the skatepark. Sweden has some great indoor parks so I had to have a roll. The street course, requiring speed and agility was packed full of little rubber people who don't shave yet (guess the movie that quote came from). So we headed to the next room for the bowl and pipe which requires a slower shift of momentum, and less of a care. Funnily enough there were only about 7 other people in there- all over 30!
The music was much better too- a mixture of Guns 'n' Roses and Roy Orbison, among others, which felt strangely calming. Having not skated properly for over 2 years I was surprised at how quickly it came back.
I've still got it.
Uh, no I don't.
That evening we did not set off fireworks, drink too much or get kicked out of bars in the Old Town. Just as much as I didn't have a great time.
I hope the dude in front of me didn't have to pay more for the same seat on the same flight than I did...
